(Women of the World Poetry Slam)
The Women of the World Poetry Slam (WOWps) is a four day poetry festival, in which 72 of the best women poets in slam will compete against each other in order to crown the Women of the World Poetry Slam champion. In this event, poets compete in preliminary competitions (referred to as “bouts”) over two nights. The poets with the top twelve scores from those days move on to Finals, where one poet is crowned the champion! (information found on poetryslam.com)
Jassmine Parks is our 2016 Rep!!!
Jassmine Parks is a writer, spoken word poet, activist and above all: CONQUEROR!
Though born in Detroit, MI, Jassmine moved as a small child to the fringes of the city, to the suburb of Romulus.
Jassmine’s poetry reflects her life’s principles: transparency, authenticity and vulnerability. She looks to show the audience who she is in totality. She realizes that baring both scars and beauty reveals the core of the human experience.
Jassmine believes that stories emit the aura of healing. Words have the power to transform experiences by attaching meaning.
Jassmine is a member of the 2015 Detroit Poetry Slam Team. She is ranked 5th in the Midwest for her performance poetry. She was published in The University of Michigan-Dearborn’s journal, Lyceum. She has also been recruited as a house performer for Take Back the Night, a program that disseminates and challenges domestic violence and sexual assault. She has also performed in Eve Ensler’s, “The Vagina Monologues.”
Jassmine is looking forward to adding her aspirations to act and model to her performance resume. She also has a desire to speak at motivational engagements. Currently, she is working on to complete her first full collection of work.
